Write the structural formula of the following compounds:
(i) N,N-diethylpropanamine
(ii) N-pentylpentanamine
(iii) 2,3-dimethylhexan-3-amine
(iv) Pent-2-enamine
(b) Briefly explain the following observations
(i) Tertiary amines do not undergo acylation.
(ii) Silver chloride dissolve in methylamine solution.
(iii) Amines are less acidic than alcohols of comparable
molecular masses.
(c) With reasons, write down the use of the following
polymers:
(i) Butyl-rubber.
(ii) Polyhaloalkene.
(iii) Polyacrylonitriles
(d) A sample of 3-phenylpropanoic acid was mixed with a
small quantity of phosphorus pentachloride and the mixture was warmed and
stirred in the evaporating dish until the reaction was completed.
(i) Write the equation for the reaction and the names of the
organic product of the reaction.
(ii) Why most carboxylic acid will not form esters without
acid catalysts?
(iii) Show the general mechanism for hydrolysis of ethanoyl
chloride
