trees for shelter and food. In a small village called Kijani, people used to cut down trees carelessly for firewood and building materials. After several years, the village experienced severe soil erosion and water shortages. The villagers realized that their actions were harming the environment. The village leaders decided to start a tree-planting campaign. Every family was encouraged to plant at least five trees each year. Schools, religious institutions and community groups joined the campaign. The villagers also learned about the importance of protecting young trees from animals and fires.
