SECTION C (30 Marks)

Answer TWO (2) questions from this section.

9. (a) State the Mirror Formula and define all three symbols used. (3 marks)

(b) An object is placed at a distance of 30 cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm.
i. Calculate the position of the image (v). (4 marks)
ii. Find the linear magnification (m) of the image. (2 marks)

(c) Give two (2) practical applications of a concave mirror in daily life configurations. (6 marks)

10. (a) A car A travels at 30 m/s due East along a straight highway, while another car B travels at 20 m/s due West along the same highway. Calculate:
i. The velocity of car A relative to car B. (4 marks)
ii. The velocity of car B relative to car A. (3 marks)

(b) An object 4 cm high is placed 15 cm in front of a convex mirror of radius of curvature 20 cm.
i. Determine the focal length of the mirror with its appropriate sign. (2 marks)
ii. Find the position of the image. (4 marks)
iii. State two characteristics of the image formed. (2 marks)

11. (a) With the aid of a neat diagram, explain how a standard laboratory experiment can be performed to determine the coefficient of static friction between a wooden block and a horizontal surface. (7 marks)

(b) A concave mirror produces a real image that is exactly 3 times the size of the object. If the object is placed 20 cm away from the pole of the mirror:
i. What is the image distance (v)? (3 marks)
ii. Calculate the focal length (f) of this mirror. (5 marks)
