CURRENT
ELECTRICITY PRACTICAL FOR NECTA 2026 BY MAHINYA PHYSICS
This
practical guide is specially prepared for students who are preparing for the
NECTA Physics Examination 2026. It focuses on the topic of Current Electricity
and provides detailed explanations of practical procedures, circuit
connections, observations, calculations, and data analysis techniques commonly
tested in examinations.
Students
will learn how to use electrical measuring instruments such as ammeters and
voltmeters, verify Ohm’s Law, determine resistance, and analyze current-voltage
relationships in electrical circuits. The guide also includes sample practical
questions, worked examples, examination tips, and important formulas that every
candidate should master before the final examination.
Current
Electricity remains one of the key topics in Physics practical assessments and
requires both theoretical understanding and practical skills. This material is
designed to improve students’ confidence, accuracy, and performance in NECTA
examinations through step-by-step explanations and practical applications.
EXAMPLE OF PRACTICAL
1. You are provided with a dry cell E, ammeter A, resistance
box B, switch K and
several pieces of connecting wires.
Proceed as follows
(a) Connect a dry cell E, switch K, an ammeter A and the
resistance box B in series.
(b) Using the resistance box, set the resistance R equal to
1Ω, close the K and record
the current I (A) passing through the circuit.
(c) Repeat the procedures in 3 (b) for the value of R equal
to 2Ω, 4Ω, 5Ω and 6Ω.
Questions
(i) Record the results in tabular form including the values
of (A−1)
(ii) Draw a well labelled diagram of your circuit you
connected
(iii) Plot a graph of R against
(iv) Use the graph to compute the value of E.m.f of the
cell.
(v) What is the physical meaning of R- intercept?
(vi) What is the aim of doing this experiment?
